DSEI 2015: Proteum launches diesel outboard (video)

15th September 2015 - 18:35 GMT | by Tony Skinner in London

Claimed as being the first ‘viable’ high power diesel outboard engine for military users, the OXE Diesel was launched at DSEI 2015.

Unveiled by UK company Proteum Ltd, the 200hp OXE Diesel outboard has the 'highest power density of any marine diesel' and incorporates a unique self-contained belt propulsor unit (S-BPU) to eliminate bevel gears and transfer shafts.

In addition, OXE Diesel uses a conventional automotive engine block adapted for marine use and unlike most outboards is mounted horizontally to improve reliability and reduce maintenance.

The company is giving waterborne demonstrations with an OXE Diesel-powered Boomeranger RIB at DSEI.
