Bulgarian OPV programme drifts along
The procurement of two new multipurpose OPVs for the Bulgarian Navy could be delayed again with the country’s MoD having still not presented its evaluation of bids submitted in for supply of two multipurpose OPVs at a cost of 820 million Lev ($470 million).
With the long-awaited finalisation of another Bulgarian modernisation programme – the acquisition of eight F-16 Block 70 multirole fighter jets – the MoD’s 2019 modernisation budget may now not be able to pursue other critical programmes, such as the acquisition of new OPVs or the procurement of wheeled armoured combat vehicles.
