US Army orders Carl-Gustaf ammo
Saab has received an order from the US Department of Defense (DoD) to deliver ammunition for the Carl-Gustaf man-portable weapon system, the company announced on 7 January.
The $16 million order includes delivery of multiple ammunition types for the Carl-Gustaf 84mm recoilless rifle system. The order is part of a five year deal signed in August 2014, which allows the DoD to place orders up to $187 million.
Known as the M3 M3E1 in the US, the 84mm recoilless rifle system allows dismounted soldiers to neutralise armoured vehicles, engage enemies within buildings and clear obstacles. Its latest version, the Carl-Gustaf M4 reduces the launcher weight from 10kg to less than 7kg.
Deliveries will take place in 2020.
