Ukraine to ramp up arms production
Ukraine’s state-owned defence firm Ukroboronprom will increase weapon supplies to the Ukrainian army from next year.
The company plans to increase production of the BM Oplot main battle tank – a modernized variant of the T-84 – up to 120 units annually.
Oplot entered Ukranian Army service in 2009 under an agreement with Ukroboronprom for 11 tanks but the contract was suspended in 2011, due to a lack of funding.
Prices for BM Oplot are slated to be in the range of $1.5-2 million per tank. But the project may be complicated as the company will have to source parts
