Slovenia test-fires Spike LR from Oshkosh JLTV
The Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) successfully fired the Spike LR missile in a demonstration in December 2020, Israeli manufacturer Rafael reported on 25 January.
The live demonstration involved firings of the 12.7mm gun and Spike LR missile from the Kongsberg Protector Remote Weapon Station mounted on a Oshkosh Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV).
This event also included firings of the missile from the new ICLU dismounted digital Spike launcher, amid the transition by all Spike customer nations to the fifth-generation Spike LR2 missile and digital NCW-ready launcher.
Slovenia is set to begin receiving 38 JLTVs from Oshkosh Defense in Q1 2021 via the US FMS programme. The Slovenian MoD has allocated a budget of €15.69 million ($17.89 million) for this procurement, according to Shephard Defence Insight.
