SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, has announced the launch of DNVS-4, a new passive, dual-channel, wide-angle indirect observation camera which will be offered with the Company’s Road Marshall integrated situational awareness system. DNVS-4 is the first of a new range of digital cameras supporting the UK’s Generic Vehicle Architecture Def Stan 23- 09. The new imaging system follows on from the successful DNVS-2 and DNVS-3 systems which have been, or still are, in service with British Forces on a number of vehicles. DNVS-2 has also been chosen by Dutch armed forces and DNVS-3 has been selected by Saudi Arabia.
Aimed at UK and international markets, the DNVS-4 comprises a high resolution uncooled thermal imaging module and a colour day/night or low light monochrome camera contained within a single enclosure. Whilst maintaining the current fields of view of the DNVS-3, the higher resolution provides significant increases in detection, recognition and identification ranges.
The addition of a visual band camera which was previously exclusive to the larger DNVS-2 product enables the user to select the most appropriate sensor to satisfy their operational requirements. Colin Horner, Head of Campaigns Land ISTAR & Imagers at SELEX Galileo said “As a leading defence electronics provider, SELEX Galileo is committed to the continued development of products to ensure that advances in technology and capability are delivered to our customers.
The DNVS-4 supports both digital and analogue domains while ensuring compatibility with current and future system requirements”. The DNVS-4 can be seen on SELEX Galileo’s stand at the DSEi 2011 exhibition as well as on the BAE SYSTEMS stand mounted onto a Viking II all-terrain vehicle and on the Universal Engineering stand where the camera is mounted onto a Ranger 8 X 8 vehicle.
DNVS-4 is part of SELEX Galileo’s offering for force protection and situational awareness which will be presented at this year’s DSEi.
