SDSR re-structures British Army
The British Army will be re-shaped to increase its rapid reaction capability with a new medium-weight force.
This is something the army has not had before. It has always had a combination of very heavy armour and extremely light infantry formations.
A lot of details are still to emerge but by 2025 the army will lose one of its three armoured infantry brigades, its assets will be re-grouped and it will be replaced by two new ‘strike’ brigades consisting of 5,000 men each – which are basically mechanised infantry brigades.
