Saab to supply vehicle electronics to Patria
Saab is to supply Patria Land Systems with vehicle electronics for the information systems of the Patria 8x8 vehicles being delivered to South Africa.
Patria is under contract with Denel to supply the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) with the Badger infantry combat vehicle (ICV), which is based on the Patria 8X8 armoured modular vehicle (AMV). The first 16 serial vehicles will be assembled by Patria in Finland; the remaining vehicles will be assembled by Denel Land Systems in South Africa.
Under this order, Saab will supply a number of components for integration into the Patria vehicles, including a data network and operator displays plus a digital video system with cameras.
Niclas Lövgren, director and head of vehicle systems, Saab´s Business Area Support and Services, said: ‘Saab is supplying Patria AMV vehicles with the latest technology, helping to improve local situational awareness for soldiers in the field. This order further establishes our position as a leading supplier of robust systems within vehicle electronics on the international market.’
Saab will deliver the equipment during the 2014-2016 timeframe; the sub systems will be thereafter locally supported in South Africa.
