Saab subsystems for USMC AN/TPS-80 G/ATOR
Saab has won a contract from Northrop Grumman to provide subsystems and components for the US Marine Corps (USMC) AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR), as announced on 12 February.
The $32 million contract will see Saab's US division, Saab Defense and Security USA, cover the delivery of major subsystems, assemblies and software for the first four low-rate initial production units of the G/ATOR system.
The assemblies, developed and built by Saab, will be integrated by Northrop Grumman into the four systems, which are due to be delivered to the USMC in 2016-2017. The contract also covers priced options for additional sets of assemblies as well as associated spares.
The G/ATOR system will provide the USMC with a single radar type for air surveillance, ground weapon locating, air defence and air traffic control missions. It is the first multi-mission, ground-based active electronically scanned array radar developed by the US Department of Defense.
