Saab receives USSOCOM Carl-Gustaf contract
Saab has received a follow-on contract from the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) for the Carl-Gustaf man-portable weapon system valued at up to $187 million over five years. The framework contract, which follows on a previous five-year contract, also includes an initial $14.3 million order.
The contract enables USSOCOM to place order for Carl-Gustaf weapons and ammunition for the five year period.
Görgen Johansson, senior vice president and head of Saab’s business area dynamics, said: ‘This is another great milestone for Saab and the Carl-Gustaf system. This new order demonstrates the continued belief by the customer in the capabilities and versatility of our product as well as its future potential.’
Lars Borgwing, president and CEO, Saab Defense and Security USA, added: ‘The Carl-Gustaf has repeatedly proven itself in the most demanding environments and it is a versatile, powerful tool for the soldier. The fact that the system is also being fielded to US Army light infantry combat teams speaks for itself.’
The 84mm recoilless rifle system is known as Multi-role, Anti-armor Anti-Personnel Weapon System (MAAWS) in the US military. Saab is currently developing a new, lighter weight, version of the weapon to meet evolving operational requirements.
