Russian marines receive new BTR-82A APCs
Marine units of the Russian Navy’s Caspian Flotilla have received a new batch of BTR-82A armoured personal carriers (APC), the Russian Ministry of Defence announced on 10 May.
Around 30 APCs have arrived in Dagestan from the Kostroma region and undergone vehicle test runs at the military base. Crew training has already been completed.
The BTR-82A is a modernised and modified version of the BTR-80. Spall liner, a multi-layer floor, new seats and a suspension with energy-absorbing properties have been installed to protect crew. The main weapon of the combat module is a 30mm gun along with two additional machine guns. Installation of other weapons on the vehicle is also possible.
The units are set to receive another batch of APCs in late June 2018.
