Russian SAM digital upgrade on offer
A new upgrade to Russia’s OSA-AKM (NATO SA-8 Gecko) mobile surface-to-air (SAM) missile system is now available.
Russian company IEMZ Kupol, a company of Almaz-Antey Air and Space Defence Corp, has started marketing the upgrade, called Osa-AKM1, that it says will improve the combat performance and extend the life-cycle of the wheeled system by10-15 years.
According to company director general Fanil Ziyatdinov, the upgraded SAM system will boast much better resistance to radar jamming and an all-new electro-optical targeting system featuring an infrared channel in addition to satellite positioning system.
