RADA, Artis team on Iron Curtain radar
RADA Electronic Industries will provide its RPS-10 radar system to Artis for integration and testing with the Iron Curtain close-in Active Protection System (APS), the company announced on 29 August.
RPS-10 is a compact hemispheric radar (CHR)-based S-band, software-defined, pulse-Doppler, active electronically scanned array radar designed to detect direct fire threats such as rocket propelled grenades (RPGs) and anti-tank guided missiles.
The radar will provide hostile fire detection capabilities and provide critical targeting information, and deliver the data in real time to Iron Curtain for threat neutralisation.
Artis’ Iron Curtain is a close-in APS that defeats RPGs and other shoulder-launched threats to military vehicles. It intercepts and destroys a multitude of threats inches from their targets, affording high level of protection with minimal collateral damage.
Zvi Alon, RADA's CEO, said: ‘The global APS market is emerging, as evidenced by the increasing number of customers who recognise the need for such systems. RADA's CHR and the RPS-10 mission fit any potential APS. After successful integration and testing of the RPS-10 with an Israeli APS, we are very happy with the opportunity to prove its operability as part of the Iron Curtain, and actively look forward to more global APS opportunities.’
The integration and testing is planned for the first quarter of 2017.
