Proximity round demonstrates enhanced C-UAS capabilities

Tests of a new XM1211 30x113mm proximity fuzed round show potential effectiveness against the growing UAV threat

Northrop Grumman and industry partners are conducting private firing demonstrations of a new XM1211 30x113mm proximity fuzed round for use with the M230 LF cannon.

This week’s demonstrations, attended by Shephard, featured the cannon integrated onto two Northrop Grumman Scorpion gun truck platforms and engaging a number of small UAVs.

Maj Gen (ret.) Kent Savre, senior director at Northrop Grumman, said the XM1211 demonstrations highlight the growing air threat posed by UAVs. He added that the tests also show that units can use currently fielded weapon systems to protect themselves from UAV threats while continuing their assigned mission.
