Oshkosh to make FMTV armour upgrade kits
US Army Contracting Command has ordered 1,081 Underbody Armor Kit upgrade kits for the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) from Oshkosh Defense.
Work on the $61 million contract will be completed by 30 June 2022.
The destination of the upgrade kits was not disclosed but the DoD announced on 5 February that the order is being paid for by European Deterrence Initiative funds.
FMTV comprises 17 models, including cargo, tractor, van, wrecker, tanker and dump truck variants. Shephard Defence Insight notes that the FMTV can also be produced unarmoured without ITAR restrictions for international militaries.
