Norinco shows off active protection and new AFVs
The North Industries Corporation (Norinco), China’s largest manufacturer of armoured vehicles, successfully demonstrated its GL5 active protection system (APS) before more than 200 dignitaries from 50 countries on 16 August.
The APS, designed to be mounted on MBTs, consists of four radar detector units, four launcher units (fitted with three rockets each) and a control terminal. Each detector and launcher unit mounted on the MBT turret covers a respective quadrant.
During the a so-called Armour Day demonstration in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, the GL5 system defeated a 120mm rocket fired from a range of 180m.
