New Arjun ammunition in testing
Two new ammunition types developed for the Indian Arjun tank have been successfully tested by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The trials of the Penetration-Cum Blast (PCB) and Thermobaric (TB) ammunition successfully destroyed the target tank, severely damaging the turret, barrel, tracks, ammunition bin, sights, and antenna. The effects of the firing were determined by instrumentation that measured shock, blast, temperature on the target.
The ammunition types were developed by the DRDO laboratories Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL).
The trials were carried out jointly with the Indian Army as part of work to increase the fire power of the Arjun tank.
