Netherlands signs CV90 upgrade deal
BAE Systems Hägglunds to overhaul and enhance up to 141 vehicles for the Royal Netherlands Army.
Dutch defence procurement organisation DMO has signed an extensive €500 million ($584 million) midlife upgrade (MLU) contract with BAE Systems Hägglunds for at least 122 CV9035NL vehicles.
The MLU provides the CV9035NL, in service with the Royal Netherlands Army (RNA), with ‘increased protection against current and future threats, including anti-tank missiles’, the DMO noted on 13 January.
As part of this upgrade, the Dutch CV9035NL fleet will be equipped with Iron Fist from Elbit Systems, making it the first Western European country to adopt a hard-kill APS.
A total of 141 CV9035NL IFVs could receive the upgrade if all options are exercised.
An initial batch of four vehicles are to be upgraded by BAE Systems Hägglunds before Netherlands-based Van Halteren Metaal begins series production.
Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2024 and 2026, Shephard Defence Insight notes.
