KPE selects Allison transmissions
Allison Transmission's 3000 Series automatic transmissions have been selected by Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering (KPE) for its new armoured vehicles.
KPE produces the Arlan 4x4 armoured wheel vehicle (AWV), Nomad 4х4 AWV and the Barys 6х6 and 8х8 armoured personnel carrier. These armoured vehicles are mine-resistant ambush-protected and are equipped with Cummins diesel engines and six-speed Allison fully automatic transmissions.
Allison automatics can be used in tough temperature conditions and rugged terrain. The automatics have a second operating mode intended for mountainous areas and the operator can switch between modes with a single button. The fully-automatic Allison transmissions ensure ease of handling, manoeuvrability and quick acceleration by smoothly multiplying engine torque and delivering more power to the wheels.
Johan Delport, deputy director general, KPE, said: ‘When selecting the transmission to pair with the Cummins diesel engine, we focused on two basic factors. The first one is the simplicity and speed of integration, which impacts the production and maintenance speed. In this regard, the fully-automated Allison transmission was a very successful solution as it is quite popular and widespread, and it has shown good results in combination with this engine.’
