Kongsberg signs Qatar cooperation agreement
Kongsberg has established a new company with Barzan Holdings for technology development programmes in Qatar.
The first opportunity for the company, BK Systems, will be to deliver systems for Qatar’s armoured vehicle programme. Qatar is set to sign a contract with Nexter for the delivery of 490 VBCI armoured vehicles, and Kongsberg will deliver its Protector remote weapon station and Medium Calibre Turret for the vehicle when the contract is signed.
Integrated digitalization and communication solutions will also be delivered for the programme.
The next steps in the process will be detailing and final negotiations prior to final contract signing.
Geir Håøy, president and CEO of Kongsberg, said: ‘BK Systems will be an important company for the development of technology and solutions within defence, digitalization and maritime industry in Qatar.
‘The establishment of this cooperation shows that Norwegian high-tech industry is world-leading and in demand. We see considerable opportunities and potential for Norwegian industry and technology development with this establishment.’
