Iraq receives first T-90 tanks from Russia
The first batch of Russian-made T-90S/SK MBTs ordered by the Iraqi MoD have been delivered.
Images posted on social media on 15 February showed the first tanks being transported on trailers in Iraq’s southern Basra area.
Last June, the sale of 73 T-90S/SKs to Iraq was disclosed in the 2016 annual report of Russian manufacturer Uralvagonzavod.
The contract value was not disclosed but it is believed to be between $250 and 300 million.
The Iraqi tank deal was later officially confirmed by the Service of Military-Technical Cooperation, Russia’s arms export control body.
