Allison Transmission has been working with Caterpillar Defense, FNSS and PT Pindad to provide the cross-drive transmission for the Harimau Modern Medium Weight Tank (MMWT) that is entering full-rate production.
Harimau is under development by JV between FNSS of Turkey and Indonesian firm PT Pindad to meet an Indonesian Army requirement for a tracked direct fire support vehicle.
Shephard Defence Insight notes that the vehicle is based on the FNSS Kaplan MT and features a Cockerill 3105 turret from John Cockerill Defense.
Nail Kurt, FNSS General Manager and CEO, told the Turkish government-run Anadolu news agency earlier in May that Indonesia has a requirement for 200-400 of the medium-weight tanks.
Dana Pittard, VP for defence programmes at Allison Transmission, said the company is also collaborating with customers around the world to meet their current and future transmission requirements for tracked or wheeled medium-weight armoured vehicles.
