Franco-German industry unites
A next generation European tank looks to be on the horizon following the merger of armoured vehicle manufacturers Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Nexter.
Nexter, a French state-owned company, and KMW, owned by Wegmann in Germany, formally signed a contract create a 50:50 Joint Venture (JV) on 29 July in Paris.
The merger is set to come into effect by the end of 2015 and will be based in the Netherlands. The JV will be running a competition for the name; it is currently operating under the name KANT.
