Donaldson wins Achzarit air filtration contract
Donaldson will supply engine air filtration solutions to Nimda for installation on the Israeli Defense Force’s Achzarit Heavy Armored Personnel Carrier (HAPC), under a development contract announced on 13 October.
Donaldson’s integrated system design incorporates pre-cleaning, Vee-Pac filters, and an air scavenge system that removes captured particulates, provides maximum filtration efficiency and eliminates more than 99.99 percent of airborne contaminants from intake air flow. The system design will also ensure proper sealing so that particulates cannot leak into clean air ducts and facilitate maintenance by keeping the retention mechanism open if filter elements are improperly installed.
The company has already commenced delivery of Air Cleaner Assemblies to Nimda for installation on the Achzarit HAPC. Each assembly includes a Strata Panel Pre-Cleaner, Ultra-Web Vee-Pac Filter Elements, and Filter Element Retention Mechanisms.
Nimda has developed the Achzarit HAPC for the Israeli Defence Force. The 44 metric ton vehicle is based on the T-55 tank hull, which has been modified, upgraded and re-engineered in order to contain a Nimda power pack.
According to Donaldson, its Ultra-Web filter media is up to 10 times more efficient than conventional cellulose filtration media, and has been designed to be especially effective in capturing the fine dust found in harsh desert combat environments.
Matt Fortuna, director, defense ground vehicle products, Donaldson, said: ‘Donaldson is proud to support the Achzarit HAPC, a remarkable fighting vehicle with nearly 25 years of service. Donaldson’s Air Cleaner Assembly will deliver unmatched protection for the Achzarit’s new 850-hp engine and enables peak operational efficiency, even in demanding conditions.’
