DefExpo 2016: FICV attraction
Armoured vehicle manufacturers were out in force at DefExpo 2016, lured by the massive Future Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV) programme for the Indian Army.
Under FICV some 2,610 vehicles will replace in-service BMP-2/2K Sarath IFVs beginning in 2022.
Expressions of interest in the resurrected $10 billion ‘Make in India’ project were lodged by six contenders in mid-February: Tata Motors, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Mahindra Defence, Tata Power SED (with Titagarh Wagons), Pipavav Defence/Reliance Defence and the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB; working with Uralvagonzavod).
