Baltics modernise land forces
Efforts to modernise the military capabilities of the Baltic countries are being accelerated.
Lithuania has announced its plans for a spending increase this year and the budget will go up to €575.2 million compared to €425 million in 2015.
Furthermore Lithuania will return to compulsory military service, which had been abolished several years ago.
The MoD has recently completed the formation of its 2nd Mechanised Infantry Brigade, which is known as Samogitia, and is now part of the Lithuanian Land Forces.
The new brigade is located in the western part of Lithuania (near the border with the Kaliningrad region of Russia)
