BAE signs contract for Dutch Bv206 upgrade
BAE Systems Hägglunds has signed a contract with the Netherlands Ministry of Defence for the Mid-life Upgrade (MLU) of Dutch Bv206 vehicles, the company announced on 9 March.
The contract includes the delivery of one prototype and six pre-series vehicles from BAE Systems Hägglunds, with an option for another 88 vehicles.
The MLU will include replacement of the electrical systems, tracks, transmission and engine of each vehicle, and the renovation of its other sub-systems.
Peter Nygren, director business development, BAE Systems Hägglunds, said: 'We believe we will provide our Dutch customer with critical capabilities through the upgrade work which will ensure their Bv206s continue to serve as some of the most capable and reliable all terrain vehicles in the world.'
The first seven vehicles will be upgraded at the BAE Systems Hägglunds facility in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, while the following 88 vehicles will be upgraded in the Netherlands in close cooperation with the customer.
The Bv206 is a tracked articulated all-terrain vehicle, with an armoured personnel carrier version available that can carry 12 combat-equipped soldiers through various terrain and extreme weather conditions.
