The Australian Army, in partnership with the Defence Innovation Hub, has awarded three contracts worth a combined $2.2 million for the development of new defence technologies, the Australian Department of Defence announced on 21 June.

Two of three contracts were awarded to Defendtex, a Victoria-based company. The first contract, valued at $1.04 million, intends to explore the development of a lightweight, modular shotgun system. The second, valued at $957,000, will explore the development of low-profile body armour.

The third contract worth $227,000 was awarded to Thales Australia to explore the development of an innovative optics system for use with the current in-service Enhanced F88 rifle to provide enhanced targeting capability and shooter accuracy on operations.
