Another African customer emerges for Hizir
Katmerciler is set to add to its African customer base, following reports that the Kenyan Defence Forces (KDF) are ordering 118 Hizir APCs.
Nairobi-based newspaper The Star reported on 25 January that the Kenyan MoD is finalising a deal with Turkish manufacturer Katmerciler, believed to be worth $69 million.
The KDF intends to use the 4x4 armoured vehicles in operations against Al-Shabaab terrorists.
Hizir is designed with a high level of ballistic and blast protection. In its standard configuration, the APC features an Aselsan SARP RWS and space for up to nine occupants. The vehicle is powered by a 400hp engine.
Other operators of Hizir include the Turkish and Ugandan armies, according to Shephard Defence Insight.
This article was amended on 29 January with a picture of the correct vehicle.
