AirTronic, COR to develop RPG rockets
AirTronic has teamed up with Chemring Ordnance (COR) to develop an array of US-manufactured RPG-7 rockets, the company announced on 27 January.
Under the agreement, research, development and testing will commence immediately, and will be coordinated by engineers and project managers from both companies. The goal is to expedite development by capitalising on the expertise of both organisations in preparation for production to begin in the first quarter of 2016.
Supporting this complete RPG solution, the Department of the Army, Aberdeen Proving Ground, issued AirTronic a safety release on 4 December 2014 for its US-manufactured 40mm shoulder-fired anti-tank RPG launcher.
This permits the AirTronic RPG-7 launcher to be shoulder-fired at the Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiments Spiral J event in January-March to be conducted by the army Manoeuvre Battle Lab at Fort Benning, Georgia. Independent pressure, reliability and drop testing of this RPG-7 system was conducted by Battelle Labs in August through November 2014.
