MoD issues Type 31 contract notice
The UK’s Type 31e project continues to move forward with a contract notice released detailing the procurement of the light frigates.
The notice, issued on 23 February, confirms that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is seeking to procure five new general purpose frigates for the Royal Navy for a firm price of £1.25 billion.
Regarding timelines, the MoD expects a contract award for the competitive design phase (CDP) to occur on 23 April 2018. The CDP contract will be awarded to up to four suppliers.
A design and build contract will be awarded in the first quarter of 2019. A
