India’s Ministry of Defence concluded a $950 million deal with the United Shipbuilding Corporation of Russia to buy two Project 11356M guided-missile frigates for the Indian Navy (IN) in late October.
Delivery of the 4,000t warships under the government-to-government contract should occur within three and four years respectively, meaning late 2022 and 2023. The deal follows two years of negotiations.
The two vessels will be constructed at the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad. The shipyard in the Baltics is also building six Project 11356M frigates for the Russian Navy. Three are in service but construction of the others had been suspended
