Brisbane drives improvement in AWD programme

The second of three new Hobart-class air warfare destroyers (AWDs) has been delivered to the Royal Australian Navy.

A spokesperson from South Australian shipbuilder ASC told Shephard that the vessel, Brisbane, had achieved ‘provisional acceptance’. It will depart the shipyard on 3 September and commissioning will take place in October this year.

Brisbane completed CAT 5 trials in June and follows sister ship Hobart, which was commissioned in September 2017. The third ship, Sydney, was launched in May and is expected to be commissioned in December 2019.
