Bergamini fires ASTER 30 missile
The Italian FREMM frigate Bergamini has successfully conducted its first firing of the ASTER 30 missile at the PISQ facility in Eastern Sardinia, OCCAR announced on 25 November.
The firing was carried out against missiles simulated by a Mirach 100/5 target, using an instrumented telemetry missile procured by the OCCAR-EA FSAF-PAAMS Programme Division. The firing confirmed the capabilities of the Surface Anti Air Missile, Extended Self Defence (SAAM ESD) system.
The initial firing was conducted in an autonomous mode. The next launch, planned for April 2017, will be in an integrated mode.
The Italian FREMM anti-air warfare capability based on the SAAM ESD provides both self defence and extended self defence, and protection for consort ships.
The OCCAR-EA FREMM Programme Division is procuring 10 FREMM frigates on behalf of the Italian Navy with deliveries ongoing until 2021.
