Laser communications the solution to SATCOM woes

Laser communications technology is rapidly being developed as a means of enhancing the resilience of satellite communications and providing global, on-demand data to ever-more connected militaries.

Rapidly transmitting and exploiting large quantities of data is an increasingly essential capability for all military forces and laser communications technology is already seeing significant levels of interest and investment from governments and industry.

Laser’s appeal has been bolstered by claims that it provides a solution to a range of challenges that users of legacy SATCOM infrastructure are currently facing. 

Hughes Boulnois, head of SpaceDataHighway at Airbus speaking at the Global MILSATCOM conference, explained
