Two percent echo reverberates around Westminster
As UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) spending on defence is scrutinised, a commitment to the NATO benchmark of 2% of GDP spent on defence has been reiterated by top-level members of parliament.
During a committee hearing held on 21 February, Gavin Williamson, Secretary of State for Defence, stipulated his priorities for the MoD, having assumed the post in November 2017.
Previously Williamson had stated that the 2% requirement should be seen as a floor and not a ceiling when it comes to the commitment to defence, which he once again reiterated.
