First modernised Tu-22M3M delivered for testing
Tupolev, part of Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation, has delivered the first completely modernised Tu-22M3Mlong-range missile carrier bomber for ground and flight tests.
The Tu-22M3M is being modernised for Russian forces with an advanced digital avionics system based on domestic hardware components; new navigation, communication and targeting equipment, new engines and fuel mechanisation control and new EW equipment.
The upgraded aircraft is also equipped with an advanced on-board information and control system with digital indication in the cabin and crew intelligent assistant functions.
The upgrades will enhance the combat capability and range of the aircraft.
Following completion of the preliminary in-plant tests the aircraft will be delivered to the Russian Ministry of Defence for official joint testing.
A new modification of the Tu-22М3 aircraft, the Tu-22М3М carries and deploys cruise missiles, free-fall and guided bombs.
