Taiwan’s MND releases report on military capability
Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) released the English-language version of its National Defense Report. As the 14th periodical report, it covers May 2016 to November 2017, with ‘Guarding the Borders, Defending the Land – The ROC Armed Forces’ as its theme.
The report is divided into five parts: strategic environment, national defence readiness, self-reliance, national defence governance and honour of the armed forces.
It details the gradual decrease of troop reduction programmes from a high of 490,000 in 1949 to the current 210,000. Recent force restructuring efforts have focused on flattening command hierarchy, and increasing command speed and facility
