The South Pacific region is shaping up as a massive maritime chessboard upon which China and the US are beginning to manoeuvre with greater geopolitical urgency as part of a new ‘Great Game’. This tussle was evident at the recent 26th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG).
