LAAD 2015: Embraer and Saab sign ‘historic’ Gripen agreement
Embraer and Saab have signed an agreement at the LAAD exhibition in Rio de Janeiro establishing a partnership for the joint management of the Brazilian Air Force’s FX-2 project.
The 14 April announcement strengthens industrial co-operation on the programme and follows the Memorandum of Understanding between the two companies announced last year.
Saab’s Gripen E/F was selected for Brazil’s FX-2 programme in 2013, winning out over Boeing’s F/A-18E/F and Dassault Aviation’s Rafale. The initial $4.5 billion deal will see Brazil purchase 36 aircraft, made up of 28 single-seat Gripen E and eight twin-seat Gripen F aircraft.
