Insight: PLA is cognisant of its growing pains
For a long time the US was reticent to call out China’s military build-up and adversarial behaviour, but that is changing, as illustrated by the testimony of Adm Philip Davidson, commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), when he described China as ‘the greatest long-term strategic threat to a free and open Indo-Pacific and to the United States’. However, there is also a risk that the West is overhyping China’s military capability.
