101 deletions - India promotes self-reliance by banning defence imports
In an attempt to promote indigenous defence production, India has created a list of 101 items that can no longer be imported from overseas suppliers. This Negative Import List is in effect a targeted embargo on specific products.
Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commented on 9 August: ‘The list is prepared by the MoD after several rounds of consultations with all stakeholders, including the armed forces, public and private industry to assess current and future capabilities of the Indian industry for manufacturing various ammunition and equipment within India.’
