US green-lights Czech UH-1Y deal

The Czech Republic is set to receive 12 Bell Helicopter UH-1Y Venoms from the US DoD as part of a $575 million FMS deal which also includes support equipment and spares.

The fleet of aircraft are to be reserved for domestic service missions. An upgrade to the Czech military’s medium helicopter programme had long been expected - but now official confirmation has been publicised - their current stock of Mi-8/17s and Mi-24/35s will most likely be retired.

The cache set for delivery will also include 25 T-700 GE 401C engines (24 installed, one spare), 13 Honeywell Embedded GPS/INS (12 installed, one
