Turkey completes anti-tank missile tests

Turkey has successfully completed the first guided test shots of its long range anti-tank missile, which will arm the Turkish Army's T129 attack and tactical reconnaissance (ATAK) helicopters.

The Turkish Anti-tank Missile (TAM-LR) was fired from a Bell AH-1S Cobra helicopter, and hit its target at a range of 3500m, according to a statement published by the Turkish Defence Industries Undersecretariat (SSM) on 4 March.

The TAM-LR, also known under its designation UMTAS (Uzun Menzilli Tanksavar Projesi) and being under the Spear development programme, is ‘targeted for qualification within the current year’, with mass production scheduled to start in 2015,
