Germany to send WS-61 Westland Sea King helicopters to Ukraine
Germany has committed to sending Ukraine six of its 21 retiring WS-61 Westland Sea King multirole, amphibious helicopters.
Thales’ FZ220 rocket launcher has been qualified for use on MDHI’s MD 530G light helicopter, Thales announced on 17 April.
This qualification follows trials at the US Army’s Yuma Proving Ground facility in March 2018.
The FZ220 rocket launcher for unguided and guided munitions (70mm) is specifically designed for rotary wing aircraft where payload limitations are an issue.
As the launcher is made from composite material it is around 50% lighter than comparable metallic rocket launchers, and it does not have any corrosion issues.
