Slovakia leans towards Black Hawks

The door may be closing on European helicopter manufacturers in Slovakia, with the country’s defence minister revealing the Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk transport helicopter is being considered instead.

Speaking on 12 January, Slovakia’s defence minister Martin Glvač said the Slovak government, the Security Council and the parliamentary defence committee would be informed about details of the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) offer for nine UH-60Ms by the end of January.

The aircraft will replace the Russian-made Mil Mi-17, about 14 of which are currently operated by the Slovakian Air Force, with the offer not expected to exceed €300 million, including
