Sikorsky is progressing with its pitch to the Israeli Air Force to choose the CH-53K King Stallion over Boeing’s CH-47 Chinook with the decision expected to be made within the year.

The Israel Air Force is seeking to modernise its fleet of rotary-wing aircraft, and is replacing a squadron of Sikorsky CH-53D Sea Stallion helicopters.

Currently, there is one active squadron of 26 CH-53D Sea Stallion aircraft which could potentially be replaced by the CH-53K as a transport helicopter. A decision is expected to be made by 2019.
