Germany to send WS-61 Westland Sea King helicopters to Ukraine
Germany has committed to sending Ukraine six of its 21 retiring WS-61 Westland Sea King multirole, amphibious helicopters.
Saab has received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, FMV, for continued delivery of support and maintenance for Helicopter 15, the company announced on 2 May.
Sweden's Helicopter 15 is the AgustaWestland AW109 twin-engine, eight-seat multi-purpose helicopter. Saab has supported the aircraft since 2012, and under this contract will continue the work through 2018 and 2019.
The work includes maintenance and support for all 20 helicopters including logistics and materiel provision, planning and administration, base staff in the form of management, materiel and technical personnel, and on-call services.
Jonas Hjelm, head, support and services, Saab, said: ‘Our ability to deliver a complete commitment to the support and maintenance of Helicopter 15 enables us to contribute to a high operational availability of our customer.’
Helicopter 15 currently operates from two bases in Sweden, Ronneby and Linköping. Saab's support and maintenance resources will be based at Linköping as it is the main base for repairs, inspections and maintenance.
