The helicopter regiment of the Russian armed forces’ Southern Military District (MD) has received two Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopters, the Russian Ministry of Defence announced on 23 January.

The 4th Air Force and Air Defence Army regiment is stationed in the Krasnodar region.

The helicopters were transported in disassembled state by military transport aircraft to Kuban and will be assembled on site.

The Ka-52 Alligator is a reconnaissance and combat helicopter designed for battle management coordination and target acquisition for other helicopters for air-to-air, air-to-surface, reconnaissance and radio jamming missions.

A further two units are to be delivered to the regiment.
