Russia to get SOF/medevac-equipped Mi-8s

The Russian MoD is interested in the procurement of an upgraded Mi-8 derivative dubbed the Mi-8AMTSh-VN for supporting operations of the country’s growing SOF community, including the airborne troops branch.

According to Sergey Romanenko, Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant (Mil MHP) executive director, there is a joint working team set up with the SOF community to undertake the integration of the Mi-8AMTSh-VN‘s equipment with the SOF systems in order to further enhance the effectiveness of the helicopter’s deployment and combat use.

The SOF will be served by an armed Mi-8 derivative with an enhanced hot-and-high capability and a digital mission suite,
